ISO5963 is a specification that provides guidelines for indexing practice. Over time, I’m slowly making comments on each section of it, largely based on thoughts I’ve been having implementing indexing systems and also from notes I had from an indexing and abstracting class I took once upon a time.
Section 1:
- Section 1.1: Introduction. An introduction to this guide on how to subject index a document.
- Section 1.2: By What Agency. For what purpose and by what means to organizations index documents (for various meanings of ‘agency’)
- Sections 1.3 and 1.4: guiding indexers. This sections talk about the purpose of this specification.
